APIWTXA

photography project

In the Ashaninka culture, rituals are present in everything. At parties with music, in seemingly banal habits of everyday life, in traditional ceremonies, and in their most complete silence. There is no word for "Nature" in their language because there is no separation between them - For the Ashaninka, nature synthesizes everything - life, man, cosmology, and religion.
This project is a synthesis of my experience with Ashaninka rituals and was produced during 5 years of immersion in the Apiwtxa village on the Amônia River, in Acre, Brazilian Amazon.
