OSKLEN ASHANINKA

photography // pattern and t-shirt prints [osklen — 2015]

In 2015, Osklen’s Summer Collection paid tribute to the Ashaninka Indigenous people, who live in the Brazilian Amazon. During the research process, I visited the Apiwtxa Ashaninka village twice, documenting daily life and the territory through photography. These images were later used to create prints for the collection and for the project's art book.

The collaboration between Osklen and the Ashaninka became an international example of a respectful partnership, with the community as the central protagonist. Royalties from the project supported improvements to the village school and the purchase of land for the Ashaninka association headquarters in Cruzeiro do Sul, Acre.

After the collection, I continued working with the community through the Ashaninka Photography Workshop, a project created in response to local leaders who wanted to use photography as a tool to defend their territory and tell their own stories. (learn more).
